Doing Dairy, Differently.
Welcome to Déjà-Moo Microdairy, where every drop of milk takes you on a nostalgic journey to the simplicity of days gone by. Located near Ballito in the heart of coastal KZN, we redefine your milk experience with artisan, locally produced milky goodness supplied in traditional glass bottles.
Déjà-Moo is a play on the French word ‘déjà-vu’… which literally means ‘already seen’. This reflects our vision to return to traditional farming practices which put food quality, animal welfare and environmental stewardship at the forefront of our activities.
Our happy free-range Jersey herd roam freely on luscious pastures 24/7 contributing to the rich, creamy goodness of our milk. Our commitment to regenerative farming means our cows graze on chemical-free pastures, with environmentally friendly management practices.
A cow without stress is a happier and healthier cow, and this results in healthier and tastier milk. Our small herd of loved pure-bred Jersey girls know their names and are doted on hoof-and-hoof. We prioritise animal welfare and keep our cows with their calves at foot for 3-6 months until weaning, milk-sharing with the calf. Our calves learn how to socialise with their peers, and learn important life skills from their mothers.
We don't use any routine antibiotics or hormones (including reproductive hormones or rBST).
Our girls have ample access to quality grazing 24/7, and are kept free-range with regular paddock rotation as part of our regenerative farming strategy. Their grass-rich diet results in top quality creamy milk and carotene-rich yellow butter. We have seeded over nine different grasses and legumes into our diverse pastures, to encourage biodiversity. Our paddocks have trees as natural shade which helps mitigate effects of the hot and wet KZN climate.
We don't use any chemicals or fertilisers on our pastures, and we adopt a near zero-tillage approach.
Everything we do has sustainability in mind. From rotational grazing, planting trees, regenerative farming principles, plans to be off-grid, reusable packaging, recyclable labels, keeping distribution local and aiming to lower carbon emissions. Sustainability is not optional.
